What I'm Doing Right Now

Drinking chai tea while

Feeling all cozy and wrapped up in my bed

Listening to the soft whirring of my fan and the morning singing of the birds.

Also I'm facinating myself by reading about this.

Who of us girls hasn't pretended at one time or another that there were fairies in our back yard.

For the Love of Hyacinth

I've been thinking a lot lately about buying a potted plant. I'll have to convince the Airman of the neccessity of one, but that shouldn't be to difficult, he's a very understanding guy, and he's finally starting to grasp the whole concept of "girl = need to amass pretty things" (we can't help it, it's ingrained in us). Anyways, I want a plant that is first A) pretty and smells nice, B) the color purple and C) is more on the hearty side (I'm a novice caretaker, there's a chance I may kill it). After much research, deabate and some trips to the grocery store for the sole purpose of studying the flowers - don't tell the Airman - I think I've finally decided on a flower I like.

The Hyacinth

I would almost be okay giving up the color purple if I could find one in this shade.

Ripping Brain Images

Yesterday, as I was bustling around my tiny kitchen in my tiny apartment, one of four in a tiny yellow house, whipping up dinner, spaghetti and chicken, and dessert, a delicious, but rather runny, pudding pie - must remember, when it comes to pudding, less milk is more - I let my mind wander down it's familiar grooves to dreaming about my dream kitchen. For years I've been imagining the same place, sometimes the seasons change in my fantasy or the people, but the kitchen is always the same. Sturdy. Spartan. The kind of place where you could attack some bread dough and not be afraid of getting flour on the floor. When suddenly my brain did one of those very rare but truly wonderful acrobatic leaps and I remembered seeing some pictures, not to long ago, that had very much the same atmosphere as my kitchen - the dream one not the tiny one. I quick jumped on the web and found the pictures. They're from a post done by Pia about a house she visited while on her last trip home. They come so very close to how I imagine my dream kitchen looking that it's almost like someone ripped the images straight from my brain.

Movie Inspiration: The Uninvited

Continuing on with the theme of clothing as inspiration, I've really found myself appreciating the costumes actors wear in movies. Not only are they often beautiful and antique, if they come from a period piece, but they are often used as a tool by the director to either say something about the character or mask something about them. I found the later to be true in the movie The Uninvited Even though the main character is a soon to be murderous the whole movie she is portrayed as a innocent young girl, and the directors build on that with her clothing choices. She's dressed in bright little sun dresses and flowy blouses that scream more flower child than psycho killer, and it works. You suspect nothing until the surprise ending. Just goes to show the power clothing has on perception.

Spring Picnic Dress

Lately I've been very inspired by clothing, the never ending variety of color and texture, and how it can be another medium for art. But mostly I've been inspired to just have fun with it; to stop looking at it as a way of shielding myself and more as an outlet for self expression. With all these new ideas buzzing around in my head, and the knowledge that spring is just around the corner, I set out to find the perfect spring party outfit (on a budget). Here is what I came up with:

Listing a Day

Don't you just love those overcast days when you have nowhere to go, and nothing to do, and you can just stay at home and let the feeling of the long, lazy day wrap around you like a thick patch-work quilt? Well I do, and today is a day like that; however, I still want to get some things done around my house and be a mildly productive human being, so I've made a list of what I want to accomplish today, and it is a very good list, at least I think so, filled with simple tasks that will keep me from feeling like I'm slacking off, creative projects to inspire me, and some little adventures, but enough talking about it, how about I just show you.

* Read a book
* Clean the bathroom
* Eat a healthy lunch
* Bake cookies
* Go to the library
* Do some more work on a collage I'm making for my sister-in-law
* Go for a walk through my neighborhood, making sure to go down some streets I haven't been down before, but eventually ending up at the beach.

P.S. Did you notice that my whole first paragraph is only two sentences?

Taping Into The Inner Kid

Speaking of brilliant ideas, The Airman had one when we were planning out our weekend. See, we've been feeling very mature around here lately, what with all the cooking, cleaning, working and general bill paying that comes with married life. In fact, we've been feeling a bit too mature. So it was decided that, needing a break, from adulthood that is, we would take a little journey back to our younger selves. And what better way to tap into your inner child than to build a tent and camp out in your living room. That's right, Airman and I went on an indoor camping trip just like we did when we were five, and it was all my wonderful husband's idea (did I mention I love that man).

The tent was constructed using two sheets and the Airman's mad ductaping skills. For the rest of the evening we were only allowed to do childish things, like pigging out on junk food and creeping ourselves out by reading short stories by Edgar Allen Poe. It was a grand time, fun was had by all, and it was exactly what we needed. Zero responsibility, zero worries. And, if we just so happened to slip up and do an adult thing once, or twice (ahem), it would be completely understandable. After all, we were just kids.
